Closing up Shop

Dear Members,

As of late, I've found it incredibly painful to watch the multitude of deviations expire because people are not following the submission guidelines. Thus, I  I've decided that closing this group would be more beneficial than keeping it open.

For those of you who followed the rules of the group, I am extremely thankful and I hope that this group provided you with the help you needed. If you like the format of being required to critique to post, please go become members of our affiliates: GoldenCritique-Club. Also, the group ThewrittenRevolution follows the same structure.

If you're more interested in showcasing your work and receiving critiques in a more laid back fashion, I implore you to join the other group that I moderate: DA-Poetics.

Thank you all for being a part of this. From today onward the group will not be accepting any more Deviations and I will remove the group from existence in a week's time to allow everyone to see this.

folded in half, fingers down my throat, i try to grasp the intangible.
it lies somewhere inside my larynx, tangled between vocal cords and embedded in my esophagus -swallowed, with grief and need and something else that goes down bitter like bile.
it takes me a while to realize, but when i am somewhere between empty and half-full, that in those minutes nothing is tangible. i am letting loose more than my dinner, i am flushing away my past present future all in one flick of my wrist and turn of my fingers.
in that moment, i am far from infinite, but rather nothing at all.
ii.
a boy fell in love with a girl four years ago, and now all he has left is me.
i have tried to tell him that her star went out -that it imploded and exploded and is nothing but a black hole now. she is dust motes and debris; a dandelion hearted girl, blown away with the wind.

because these slender, spider fingers
ache to trace the curved letters of your name tag,
emily.  i notice you write everything in caps.

how much i enjoy saying your name, -EMILY. )

you are screaming to the world, quietly.
but we, we are mid-morning whispers
over stale, back room coffee,
silent eyes, and window pane love.
these hearts were runaways once;
hitchhikers on a trail to nowhere.
you shared pieces of yourself with me then,
emily, between beats and bathroom stalls.
you were a gargoyle under the heat

hypothermiait's the plush feel of the mind's whispers
(or perhaps it was the wind, dancing with my hair,
kissing its lady hands, licking the back of my neck)

"look," the whispers scribe into the wall that is my brain.

"look. look how the breeze paints grass, bending into a coil, look how the wind whips leaves around in a tango, yet you,

you do not welcome it, you close the doors of your wool jacket,
the zipper trying to break away,
it tells you (let's dance, tango is for two)"

the clouds serenade me,
raindrops whirling with the beat,
my scalp becomes a drum, wet fingers thump,
the zipper slides, the wool wraps around my waist,

throat, o' so unspeakable.
Lilt in morse code
if you can't unwind.
Your hair is inbred and it
has grown submissive.

Midnight was sticky.
You were ravening and slobbering-
o', yes you would.
Tar-tangle slender-hung on the
child's shoulder
grating and sifting through boiling honey.

You struck and flailed.
O' what if I have never caught that moan?
What if I am sick to the bone
and I core my flesh but diseases
mingle in my veins?

Your eyes fractured under the white
gel pen clutched in a fist that was
mine or-
bitten tongue
your cheeks were ragged on their
insides so you had layers of

blasphemyin a Heaven no grander than a forest, He sat upon a throne weaved of ivy and wild roses; it was there He first touched the Universe, and it was there He came to find the thriving rock He named earth. absent lives were flitting about in oceans deep and dark, and He sought to make company, entertainment, using His vast power to manipulate these beings' path. they grew until they resembled His intention, but before the first man thought of the savannah's cruelty or had any thought besides instinct, angels were birthed of the Lord's passing thoughts—

He would breathe and exhale
lights that cuddled like sweet birds,
tucked close for warmthblasphemy by *glossolalias
Dreams of an AngelI.
"what do angels dream about?" Lindsay asked
I thought for a minute
"they dream to live like us."
"then why did Rachel want to die?"
"goodnight" I said, and turned out the light

Rachel used to sing to the birds
she said sometimes they just wanted someone to show they cared
and she serenaded them
until she was sure they  felt important

II.
in the car, Lindsay broke down
the black veil she wore seemed to be more
than an article of mourning
"why do they make child-size coffins?"
"Lindsay—"
"did you see her?
even dead, her spindly fingers reached out
but…  I couldn't grab her…"

She laid upon my skin
Devoutly, like a velvet caress.
She takes to our chamber,
to the coverlet we share.
Upon my side, without fail,
A red, red rose, she lays.

Every night,
She whispers prayers upon my lips.
Sweetest of kisses, she sleeps
Unwitting of the shivers that wrack,
my heart that silently weeps.
I reach out in vain
to her shoulder, her hand.
I cannot rouse her

Reaching out becomes akin to

The Macabre FascinationDeath is the great, final adventure for us all.
That fascinating realm of darkness and light.
Is there truly a heaven, Is there truly a hell?
Do our souls return to live a new or do we

P'rhaps it's like waking from a dream.
P'rhaps the mists and shadows will part
and the shackles of lethargy will fall,
and you will realise that the life you lived
is not your life at all.
But merely a stimulation of senses and experiences.

Quatrain VIIWinter's anguish  had dwindled
And spring's curse slowly heathered
While amaryllis shriveled
Like dewdrops, they are sunderedQuatrain VII by ~shehrozeameen
Shadows of the Colossuscolossi roaming
the island undisturbed in
acceptance of a
purposeful fate when
the shadow will encompass
their absolution
legends will speak of
them as the voice of their god
will call out their names
when darkness will fall
and mountains will be bathed
in their memory
for they are not carved
in stone - they epitomize
an ancient credence
as holy as the
heavens from where they had come
and whence they'll return
many wanderers
came and went, but one prevailed
and face the sixteen
harbingers of Man's
divine destiny - from them
have we earned our peace
the first was patience;
the second was existence
the third - tradition
the fourth was conquest
the fifth was truth's harbinger
the sixth was mercy
the seventh was fate
the eighth was humanity
the ninth - purity
the tenth was bondage
the eleventh was struggle
the twelfth was piety

The Felonious PoetThe poet locked in shackles of iron and stone,
imprisoned in gloomy dungeons, alone to atone
for crimes and felonies, so deceitful he is!
Yet the criminal in truth is the writing pad of his.
Sentenced by the law of all nations in concert,
such renowned reputation; oh would he wish to revert!
But alas no whim of his shall be entertained heretofore.
No child passing by shall smile at his name anymore.
What were the atrocities he was condemned with?

He was a con
for his writing was a devious art
he mentioned not what was
but what he meant to impart.
He was a traitor
for he was not true to his word.
He expressed in entirety once,
but the next time he differed.
He was a murderer
for he killed many a time in his songs
the savior to the maiden
who was meant to live long.
He was a thief
for his robbery was also well known.
He robbed the elfish king,
of his jewels and his throne.
He was a liar,
for he knew not what he had last said.

About Building Better Poets

Please read the submission guidelines below so that we can accept your work into our gallery.

Building Better Poets was built on the assumption that all writers want to better their craft. Thus, I created a group dedicated to giving and receiving feedback and critiques. The goal of this group is to create a community of poets who wish to take part in this workshop type setting to better themselves as well as others. Thus, we will NOT put any submissions in our gallery without the author giving feedback on a piece within our gallery. This rule is on a poem by poem basis

Membership Guidelines:
1) Membership is open to all poets of any writing level.
2) When you join, confirm that you've read and understand the submission guidelines in the comment field. Otherwise we will not be able to accept your request.

Submission Guidelines:
1) All submissions must be poetry
2) To submit a piece of work you are required to critique or give feedback to another submission within the group's gallery. Once completed please send the group a note,* comment on the pending submission request, or message ImMattyVYo with a link to your critique/feedback and the name of the piece you're submitting.
*if you don't know how to send the group a note please ask :)
3) You may submit three pieces per week to each folder.
4) Please post your work in the correct folder.
5) Mature content is allowed (please use filters)

I am always looking for ways to improve the group. If you have ideas do not hesitate to send me a note!
